Worimi! ("Hello" in Dharug language)
Doonside is located on Dharug land and we take this opportunity to acknowledge elders both past and present, as well as the AECG, who have continually supported our school community in the promotion of traditional Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures.
At Doonside, we are committed to ensuring that all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are engaged in high quality learning experiences.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students have a Personalised Learning Pathway (PLP) which outlines their academic and cultural goals and helps students adopt a holistic approach to their development.
The Aboriginal Education Team, is comprised of:
- Ms. Stevie-Rae Harrison ( Aboriginal Education Coordinator) who leads the development of the PDP process and initiates curricular and extra-curricular opportunities for students.
- Mrs Michelle Harrison ( Aboriginal Education Officer/ AEO ) who provides community liaison support to Aboriginal students to improve their learning, wellbeing and connection to country.
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students are able to share and celebrate their cultural identity with the school community through important events such as NAIDOC week as well as in curriculum based learning experiences.
