Library

Teacher Librarian – Ms Carolyn King

DTHS School Library is our information teaching and learning centre. The Library is housed in a large, purpose-built, modern building located towards the front of the school.

The Library’s mission is to assist all of our community – students of all years and staff – with their information needs and the development of skills in accessing and using information.

Using the Library

The Library is open every school day from 8.25 am to 3.00 pm, and students may come in before school, and during both recesses and lunch. Teachers also book their classes in to use the different areas, such as tables for working, comfortable chairs for quiet reading, and the computer lab.

Junior students may borrow up to four books for two weeks at a time, and for seniors it is six books for two weeks. Staff too can borrow and have a Teachers Reading Room, where they can use specialist teaching kits and plan lessons.

Year 7 classes are given an intensive introduction to the library and taught information skills by the Teacher-Librarian. Those skills are reinforced on an ongoing basis as teachers and students undertake their studies in the Library over subsequent years.

The Library is an important support for Year 11 and 12 students who have study periods and who may use our resources during those times.

Available resources

We have over 15,000 individual resources, most of which can be lent out.

The resources take many forms and cover the range of our school curriculum. They include:

  • Print book collection (Fiction, Non-Fiction, Reference)
  • Computer software
  • DVDs and CDs
  • Newspapers and magazines

As a school focusing on technology we have a Library computer lab with 15 internet access terminals where students can use their own accounts to work on and store assignments. We also have printing and photocopying facilities for which users a charged a small amount.
